A mothers love
THIS IS THE POEM I WROTE AND RECITED AT MY AUNTS FUNERAL…ITS A LETTER FROM MY GRANDMOTHER TO MY DAD, AUNTS N UNCLES ITS KINDA PERSONAL BUT SUMTHIN WAS TELLIN ME TO POST IT SO HERE IT IS..((and yes my gma n aunt had the same name but we called my aunt “rena”))
My dearest children
the reason that i smile
Lord knows i miss yall
we havent spoken in a while
I know this may sound selfish
or maybe a little strange
but i asked the Lord for a favor
a little person gain…
I asked him to watch my babies
protect them from all harm
give ‘em guidance and understanding
just keep them in his arms
He did just what i asked
Fulfilled my every request
but my spirit was still heavy
my soul just cldnt rest
He asked “Doris whats wrong?
You seem so displeased
Jus ask me anything
& i’ll provide all your needs!”
I told him it’s my baby girl
She’s yearning for my love
Lord i hear her moans & cries
I feel her hurt from here above
He replied “Rena my Rena
1 of my few and faithful servants
She’s done me some good
but i see that she’s hurting
She’s pushed and pushed
‘til she cldnt push no more
& I think it’s time
she walked through my doors
Doris I’m giving you this gift
Use it with all your might
Bring our daughter home
and grant her eternal life”
So Bobby, Anthony,
Deedra & Joann
Just know she made it over
& I’m holding her hand
Joann stay by the phone
she’ll still call everyday
Jus pay attention closely
She’s there when you pray
Deedra my love
a Diva of your own kind
Don’t your worry your fragile heart
We’re doing just fine
Bobby my Bobby
please try not to weep
Just know I love that baby boy
and Easy is so sweet
Last but not least
my youngest baby boy
Anthony, my soilder
My pride and my joy
you gotta hold the fort down
she’s leaving it up to you
they need you more than ever now
& can use your spirit too
Just thank the Lord for her life
& the race she has won
but my baby was too tired
her work here is done
I know that yall will miss her
her face you may not see
but her spirit will live 4ever
but she’s finally back with me.
